The Story Behind Ember & Etch Digging Deeper into the Why
Every brand begins with a spark.
Ours began with candles.
Firre Scents started from a simple love of creating warmth—quiet evenings, familiar comfort, and the feeling of slowing down. Candle making became more than a craft. It became something steady, something grounding, something we loved.
But life doesn’t always move in straight lines.
There came a season when everything slowed in a way we never expected. Illness and treatment changed the pace of daily life, and there were long stretches of time when making candles simply wasn’t possible. The craft we loved was still there, but the ability to do it had to wait.
That was a difficult season—not just physically, but emotionally. When something you love becomes part of your identity, stepping away from it, even temporarily, can feel like losing a part of yourself.
But creativity has a way of finding another path.
During that time, engraving became more than an experiment. It became a way to keep creating, to keep moving forward, to keep building something with our hands even while recovery was still unfolding.
Working with wood brought a different kind of peace. It was slower. Quieter. Intentional in a different way. Each line carved into the surface felt like proof that progress was still happening, even if life looked different than before.
That was the beginning of what would become etch.
The name Ember & Etch didn’t come from a marketing decision. It came from lived experience.
The ember represented what was still there—the warmth, the passion, and the craft waiting patiently to return.
The etch represented what was being built in the meantime—permanence, resilience, and a new way to create meaning.
One was recovering.
The other was rising.
Over time, as health slowly returned and candle making began again, it became clear that the journey had changed us and changed the work we create. Ember & Etch wasn’t just a new name. It was a reflection of what we had lived through.
It became about more than candles or engraving.
It became about moments.
Moments of rest.
Moments of gathering.
Moments of appreciating what matters most.
Because when you’ve walked through a season where everything slows down, you begin to see everyday life differently. Meals shared, quiet evenings, and time spent with family and friends are no longer small things—they are the moments that shape our lives.
That perspective now lives in everything we make.
Every tray meant to gather around.
Every candle meant to bring calm.
Every piece meant to be returned to again and again.
Ember & Etch is not just about craft.
It’s about gratitude for the moments we get to keep.
Life has a way of reminding us that time is precious. Every day holds moments worth noticing, worth sharing, and worth remembering. That is the heart of Ember & Etch—to create pieces that invite people to slow down, gather, and cherish what matters most.
